My name is Hailey and being a part of GlamourGals has affected my life in a plethora of ways.

I grew up in Yonkers and started my high school career in Yonkers High School. When I found out I was moving to Mahopac, I was permeated with a tremendous amount of emotions. I was moving from a big diverse city to a small country town and I was terrified. Moving here I felt lost and uncomfortable leading me to become very shy and introverted.

Even though I was a sophomore starting in a new high school, I decided it would be beneficial for me to attend the freshman orientation to see the school and what it offers. At one of the tables in the school, I saw a group of girls representing the GlamourGals club. Hearing what this club had to offer gave me hope that Mahopac wasn't that bad. I signed up to be a part of it that day and I am so glad I did. The highlight of my month is visiting a senior home, and even on some of the toughest days, thinking of the joy I bring to the people at the nursing homes always makes me smile. I thrive off of the happiness of others and going to see these senior citizens and building a connection with all of them over conversation fills my heart with joy. Before GG, I was a shy girl who was scared to even ask for ketchup at a restaurant. Socializing with the seniors not only forced me to open up to be more social,  but it showed me that it may be something I would love to do in the future.

In addition, being a GG volunteer has helped me find one of my passions and decide a career path for my future.

Throughout my life, I was always under a ton of pressure to be the perfect kid. When my family saw the academic advances I was achieving, they never let go of it, and always had high expectations for me. My biggest fear would be to disappoint them. As junior year is coming to an end, I'm forced to think about college and my future after high school, with the endless possibilities of careers. I've always been undecided about my aspirations with life but constantly had the expectations of a prestigious career. Being in GlamourGals allowed me to realize that no matter the pressure or prestige of the job, I want to help people. Whether I end up being a doctor or not, GG has allowed me to come to the conclusion that I need to continue doing similar activities in my future to enjoy what I do with GG, because GG really does warm my heart and always bring a smile to my face.

Check back next Saturday to see how GlamourGals has helped Hailey find her passion and career path!
