Past Glammy Scholarship Winners
Alaina Thornburg
Class of 2024
Attending West Virginia University in Fall 2024
“The GlamourGals programming has profoundly influenced me as an individual and leader. Patience and better communication skills have been crucial in interacting with seniors who have speech, cognitive, or hearing impairments. Empathy has also been a huge lesson, as I realized that self-care and pampering are important to seniors, just as they are to teenagers.”
Nusrat Jahan
Class of 2024
Attending Hofstra University in Fall 2024
“While my role in GlamourGals has helped me grow into a more patient, organized, and bolder person, it has most importantly made me more empathetic. Empathy brings perspective, often lacking in our fast-paced NYC life. Through this journey, I've learned that with a little perspective, we can better understand and connect with others, transforming both their lives and ours.”
Christina Sookhoo

Kayla Paz

Kayla works for a non-profit hospital in New Jersey and participates in community health events.

Emma Georgia

Psychology Major at University of Nebraska Lincoln
Emma is a Family Representative of UNL Dance Marathon and a primary Programmer of Out of the Darkness UNL. She support Children's Hospital Nebraska and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
“The biggest thing I learned from my GG experience is that every interaction matters. Something as little as a My Dear Friend card, to as large as a conversation within the senior home could change someone’s day.”
Alicia Balchand
Class of 2018
Senior Staff Registered Nurse in the Transplant Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) at NYU Langone Health Kimmel Pavilion.
Alicia used to volunteer at the hospital and with the Peer Health Exchange group at NYU. She also volunteered at her school, where she was part of a cardiovascular research program, the NYU Research Education in Cardiovascular Conditions Program. Additionally, she participated in the WBHI Breast Cancer and Heart Disease Advocate Program.
“GlamourGals helped me learn how to be a communicative, compassionate and resilient leader. I used to be a shy teenager who didn’t know how to communicate with people in various settings. GlamourGals helped me learn how to approach individuals and help make their day a little better with a simple conversation.”
Rheana Reyes
Class of 2018
Registered Nurse at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Studied nursing at Rutgers University
Rheana still participates as an alumni volunteer with GlamourGals through volunteering at events such as the Glammys, speaking at fundraising events, and facilitating a resume-building workshop.
“One thing I took away from my experience with GlamourGals is the importance of intergenerational relationships. Whether I am working with seniors during nursing home visits or high schoolers fresh into their journey with GlamourGals, we all learn from one another and broaden our horizons through empathetic communication.”
Ellen O’Brien
Class of 2019
Graduated from Pace University; New Grad Nurse
“One significant takeaway from my GG experience has to do with how important connecting and talking with seniors or any other individuals for that matter. Taught me how to connect with individuals and how to bond with the people you are working with. My GG experience has impacted me immensely in my nursing journey and has emphasized the importance of human connection and empathy & caring.”

Sarah Bojorque
Class of 2022
Majoring in Exercise Science DPT at Sacred Heart University
Sarah is involved in Greek life, specifically the sorority Zeta Tau Alpha.
“GlamourGals was an experience I will never forget. When I was president my senior year, my board members were always just as excited as I was anytime we made plans to visit our senior home. We did not just go to senior homes to provide company, we wanted to go to see those who we truly created connections with. I have kept this in mind when thinking about my future. I found something where I can help people, while also working around other bright minds.
Aubrey Toroloa
Class of 2024
Attending Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Fall 2024
“While my goal was to impact others' lives through GlamourGals, the organization has had an even greater impact on me. I’ve learned the true meaning of generosity and selflessness, giving without expecting anything in return. Despite the demands of my life, I’ve prioritized making a lasting impact over temporary enjoyment, understanding the profound value of selfless giving.”
Savannah Warra
Class of 2024
Attending Oakland University in Fall 2024
“Early on in my GlamourGals journey, specifically on my second visit, I had the opportunity to speak with a lovely couple, who told me all about their love story. The couple shared how their time apart taught them timing but really showed them how important self love was.”
Kira Pipkins
Class of 2023
Visual Arts and Business Management and Wrestler at Columbia University
Kira actively attend visits to senior homes and other events with GlamourGals, as well as volunteering in her area to speak with K-12 students about school and their goals. She coaches young wrestlers in the area and gives them advice on their technique and how to be successful in the sport.
“A significant takeaway I have from my experience with GlamourGals is to always check in on the elderly. There are so many people, in assisted living facilities or in their own homes, who don't get many visitors. It is mentally challenging to navigate a life where you are more sedentary and living your life differently than previous. GlamourGals is making sure as much of the senior population is being showed love and compassion.”
Sam Krinick
Class of 2021
Marketing and Management at Indiana University
Sam actively participates in the GG alumni council and works with service dogs in training with ICAN (Indiana Canine Assistance Network).
“My most significant takeaway I got from Glamour Gals is how amazing it feels to walk out of a nursing home after a makeover seeing all the smiles you just brought to those residents faces. It makes you realize the impact you make in their day and makes you want to keep participating in the amazing organization!”
