The Last First Time

Anna H, the president of the Bloomfield chapter, reflects on her growth from her very first makeover to her last first makeover a year later.

My last first visit was a great success! It was crazy comparing my first visit ever to my first visit of this school year. Last year when I first started the chapter, I was so stressed and high strung about the organization of everything that went on with the chapter and the visit. I brought bags worth of supplies and had a very specific way that I wanted everyone to do everything. But after having a year of GlamourGals experience under my belt, I learned how free-flowing the whole event could be!

I just asked who wanted to come and got a great response. Then, I set up all of our stuff and told everyone to go have fun! It was really liberating to see everyone enjoy the visit without too much guidance and leave it up to the returning girls to set a positive example for the new volunteers of how to be a successful GlamourGal. I even got to give a manicure to one very remarkable senior citizen, which is something I didn’t always get to do last year. It was awesome watching the new freshmen get comfortable with the senior citizens, and I loved giving them guidance on how to have a nice time with the senior that they naturally became paired up with. I feel very wise and at peace after leaving the nursing home for my last first time!
