Bay Port's GlamourGals Chapter Won a Youth Service America Hershey's Grant!
Klaire O.’s GlamourGals chapter at Bay Port High School won a Youth Service America Hershey’s Grant! Keep reading to learn about how they collaborated with their community to achieve their grant goals and brightened the days of seniors in their area.
My favorite memory from GlamourGals this year was when we won our Youth Service America Hershey's grant. We were able to do amazing things with this grant and ended up with a box of chocolate bars that weighed 35 pounds! I helped make cards and paper flower bouquets for our residents. This was our biggest event of the school year and I was really proud of my club with how we were able to pull this off.
When we won the grant earlier this year, we had a huge goal that we needed to meet. We knew that to reach the goal to complete the grant, we were going to need some help. Macey, Emma, and I sat in the commons and sent out an email to each of the elementary school principals to see if they would be able to help. We have 5 elementary schools and 1 intermediate school in our district, and we reached out to all of them. It was truly amazing to see the support we got, especially from the 5th graders at the intermediate school. We were able to receive cards from them and put them in our goody bags. I am hoping next year we are able to have the same support from our community that will make our branch even more successful.
This past May, my friend and our GG branch co VP went to deliver goody bags to 3 of our facilities. These goody bags were delivered to GranCare, Rennes, and Belleview. We not only had bags for the residents filled with cards, suncatchers, and paper flowers, but we also had a bag filled with mini Hershey's chocolate bars for the staff members at each facility. Rennes received chocolate, cards, and paper flowers. GranCare and Belleview received suncatchers, chocolate, and cards. Delivering these goody bags to the facilities was really cool because we got to see how happy the staff were to receive them. We could already tell that the residents were going to be overjoyed when they received their items. I definitely hope we keep grants like this in mind for next year.
