Galentine’s Day 2020

Stefanie B., a Thomas A. Edison High School volunteer, shares a pre-COVID Galentine’s Day experience she had at a senior home.

Another meeting at Margaret Tietz Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, we went around to the different rooms in the nursing home giving out balloons and cards marked "Galentine's Day". While some citizens smiled and told us thank you for the offer others looked very happy to take the balloon and card! I think they enjoyed having visitors and just some highschool faces saying hi to them. During those moments I realized it's not necessarily what you have to offer but just showing up. Showing that you love and care for others, and you're checking in. It breaks my heart to hear that some seniors don't get visits from their families, especially with this pandemic going on. I wish the best for everyone, and although we can't be there we are sending out the virtual hugs and kisses with each and every card we make!
