Cuteness Overload

Lizmarie C., a McMaster University volunteer, shares how she stayed connected to the seniors despite the distance through her chapter’s activities “Wise Words from Seniors”.

"This year has been unusual, to say the least! The switch to the virtual format was not easy, and the most difficult part was not being able to interact directly with our seniors :(

Throughout the year we tried to find ways to do this and at the end of the semester, I think that we found the cutest activity. We called this campaign "Wise Words from Seniors." We reached out to our local senior home and asked them to get the seniors to share some of their wisest words as motivation for McMaster University students during exam season.

I was so impressed to see some of the advice that we received I just knew that this campaign was worth it. My favourite piece of advice was from an 84-year-old who said "Life is short so live happily" this piece of advice although simple was just the perfect reminder to be happy all the time. So often we get caught up in the stressfulness of everyday life that we forget that we only get one chance at life and we must make the most of it! Reading this was just a reminder to live in the moment and I know that everyone could use a reminder like this every once in a while.

Ultimately, I am so glad that we did this campaign because It meant the world to us to partially engage with the seniors again and I know that all their advice was greatly appreciated by our volunteers who were stressing during exam season!”
