How GlamourGals Uplifts Communities

Clara K., Atlantic County Institute of Technology Chapter Public Relations Officer, explains how GlamourGals has given her an uplifting and positive community.

I truly love GlamourGals so much because of the opportunities it has brought me. I have the opportunity to connect and interact with senior residents. I hold this very special in my heart because of my grandparents. My grandma has Alzheimers, and my grandpa has Parkinsons. They have impacted my life so much, and I have been helping care for them for many years. When I heard about GlamourGals, I knew it was the perfect club for me. I love helping people, and it is truly what I was born to do in this world. I love being able to make connections with the residents and brighten their day or learn something new from them. I love asking them questions or talking about different topics. I never have the same resident and definitely try to help wherever I can. I want to meet new people and expand my knowledge. Ms. Ruth was the first person I was able to paint nails with; she is super sweet. Her smile made me so happy. GlamourGals is also important to my community at school because of the work we do. We are a club that is about uplifting women and peers. We also worked together and really created such a strong community of women – who are learning to love and appreciate themselves and who learn and grow together. We are a group that is proud of everyone there.

I have gone above and beyond serving the seniors in my community through my GlamourGals experience by doing as much as I can to help, whether that be creating something, helping with a craft for the residents, or helping with bingo if they need to move pieces or aren’t able to see the numbers. I also paint nails and make sure to listen and soak in what residents have to say, as well as listen to what advice they have. I want to bridge the gap between generations, because we do have something in common. We are people who are kind and loving, who love making connections, and who are here to support each other. I also make sure everyone has their picture taken (with consent). This might seem small, but to a resident, they love to show off their nails, flowers, or activities in which they participate. I truly love seeing residents smile, and they absolutely love getting their nails painted. We are all able to leave the seniors happy. Seeing them smile is what GG is about.
