A Memorable First Senior Home Visit

Bayside High School GlamourGals had their first senior home visit on Thursday, December 29th 2023 at The Pavilion at Queens for Rehabilitation and Nursing. During our first visit, volunteers helped give the residents manicures as well as hand massages with lotion. At first, everyone was a little nervous since it was the first time all of us had done this, but we easily got comfortable and got to work. Out of the 3 manicures I did, one of the seniors really caught my attention. Mrs. Gong was a 92 year old Chinese speaking senior! At first, I talked to her in English, but she didn’t understand and replied in Chinese. Luckily, I understood Chinese so I just communicated with her in Chinese. The whole time, she kept expressing her happiness and gratitude to me. I felt so honored that she felt comfortable and happy. Our first home visit was absolutely wonderful. Me and my peers had such an amazing time!
