Embracing Genuine Connection
Aubrey T., Treasurer of Bay Port High School Chapter, reflects on her journey of personal growth and leadership thanks to the help of GlamourGals.
When I first joined GlamourGals, I saw it as a way to log volunteer hours, gain leadership experience, and enhance my resume. But, as I dove deeper into the experience, I realized GlamourGals is so much more than a line on a college application. It embodies a mission of authentic connection and love. As a GG volunteer and leader, I’ve dedicated myself wholeheartedly to this mission. Whether crafting personalized cards or participating in makeovers at local senior residencies, I bring authentic positivity and kindness to every interaction. Instead of engaging in polite small talk, I bond with seniors on a personal level, discussing everything from our city's football team to the book they’ve just published. These genuine connections have brought joy to both the seniors and myself, brightening our days and creating meaningful relationships. While my goal was to impact others' lives through GlamourGals, the organization has had an even greater impact on me. I’ve learned the true meaning of generosity and selflessness, giving without expecting anything in return.
Despite the demands of my life, I’ve prioritized making a lasting impact over temporary enjoyment, understanding the profound value of selfless giving. GlamourGals has also shaped my leadership abilities. After a year of enthusiastic volunteer work, I took on a leadership position, excited by the promise of true purpose. Collaborating with my peers, we’ve launched new campaigns and found ways to enhance our chapter’s impact. I’ve learned the importance of respectful disagreement, compromise, and active listening. As a leader, I strive to embody the GlamourGals mission, focusing on what I can do for those I serve rather than seeking recognition.
