Flowers and Memories
Kennadi K. from the Cinnaminson Chapter shares how a nice gesture led to reminiscing on happy memories.
After my grandfather died, we had many beautiful bouquets of flowers that we wanted to find a bigger purpose for. My grandfather was always the nicest and most selfless man and he would always want to make others happy. Therefore, we brought the flowers to the nursing home and allowed the women to make their own collections of flowers.
After giving out the flowers, I remember talking to the one and only Dee. Dee has always been a fan favorite. We even share the same nickname, so we are basically besties! I remember hearing the stories of her when she was younger and living life. She told me that the flowers brought back her replenishing love for her husband who passed away. While very emotional, she talked to me about the gentle and loving heart he had. How he would bring her flowers and cherish her dearly. This shows me how impactful small acts are to people. You never know anyone’s life story until you sit down and reflect with them. I enjoy taking time out of my day to reflect on the past and cherish memories with the elderly. I believe it is what makes our world so pure and beautiful.
