Power Brunch Reflection
Alisa N, from the Bard High School Early College Queens Chapter shares her reflections on Power Brunch!
Power Brunch was the first GlamourGals event I’ve ever gone to and it was such an amazing experience! I met so many incredible other GlamourGals volunteers from other chapters and even ended up making a new friend. We bonded over the stress of college, inspired each other on different events we can plan over the course of this year, and spoke about our high school experience which was so wholesome.
It wasn’t just the student volunteers that stood out to me, but also the adults I met. During the mentorship session, I talked to a woman whose career revolved around sales. When it came to mentoring, I always thought mentoring was only with being in the same field you’re interested in. However, this experience showed that anyone with experience can give you valuable advice that can resonate with you in some shape or form. Something that stood out to me during this session was when she expressed how she used to be an introvert. When I questioned how she broke out of her shell, she spoke about how everyone is doing their own thing and focusing on their own lives so they don’t care about what you’re doing. Seeing how a once introvert is able to be so well-spoken and confident now is so inspiring, and I do think I’ll be able to stick with this in the future.
Overall, this event was amazing and I’m definitely going to be joining other events in the future and hopefully one day be an alumna speaking at the panel.
