Liz Lion, Director of Development, Major Gifts and Strategic Partnerships
Elizabeth Lion joins GlamourGals as Director of Development, Major Gifts and Strategic Partnerships after a prolific 20+ years raising revenue and awareness for prominent human-service organizations. GlamourGals’ mission to empower young people through service resonates with Elizabeth who credits a High School service project with Habitat for Humanity for catalyzing her nonprofit career. After graduating from Columbia, she joined The Doe Fund and spent two tenures, totaling 15 years, securing revenue for the organization’s work-based solution to homelessness and recidivism. In 2007, Elizabwth traveled to South Africa to volunteer at a community-based health center for adults and children with HIV/AIDS. Passionate about the intersection between public health and social justice, she returned to join a hybrid program of Montefiore Medical Center and the Children’s Health Fund. In 2014, she became Communications Director with Fountain House, a global changemaker in the field of serious mental illness whose model has been replicated in over 300 countries. In 2019, Elizabeth returned to The Doe Fund to lead the External Affairs department for five years in raising $6M of philanthropic revenue throughout a period of unprecedented transition which included the passing of its Founder, the global pandemic, and the recruitment/onboarding of new executive leadership.
Elizabeth was raised by her mother and maternal grandmother who thrived until the age of 88, which she attributes to the transformative power of intergenerational relationships and the positive impact of human connections. Elizabeth is the single mother of a 15 year old daughter who also aspires to a career in service as a community psychiatrist for people living with serious mental illness.
