As we wrapped up our final makeover of 2019, we couldn't have done it in a more perfect way by providing smiles to new faces. I had asked my volunteers to make some handwritten cards to give to the residents and brighten up their days.

I became inspired by the GlamourGals workshops that taught me the value of a handwritten letter. A letter can make someone feel loved and important. It becomes something so special because they can hold it forever and always look back at it. The effort and words retain a value that is worth so much and it is something others appreciate much more. I saw this first hand when giving my own to a wonderful lady I had met at today's meeting.

When first meeting her I could tell she seemed a bit reserved and she had told me to paint her nails only using her nail polish. But as a picked up a bottle of polish, her eyes lit up and she told me she thought it was a pretty color and asked if she could see it. Once I began talking to her about the organization and what we do and more about herself, she opened up. I saw her smile and she proceeded to tell me that she was absolutely in love with her nails and what we did. Her words filled me with joy and the feeling of appreciation was reciprocated. I ended our conversation by giving her one of my cards titled with "You are amazing!" and a small lip balm.

Her reaction was indescribable as she was so happy and grateful to have received it. After opening the card and reading it, she asked me to put it in her purse so that she wouldn't lose it. I saw first hand that although it wasn't much, my action and a small card with a few kind words could truly change someone's mood and day.
