My Experience Managing GG McMaster's Social Media & Hopes for This Year
Crystal C., a McMaster University volunteer, shares what she has learned while serving as her chapter’s PR officer and what she hopes to achieve with her role this service year!
I have always wanted to manage social media accounts and being an executive member on the GlamourGals McMaster team has allowed me to do exactly that. Through this experience, I have learned a lot from designing graphics to running a social media campaign. It has been more challenging than I expected to maintain a social media presence and engage with other students. I have realized that a lot of the time, there is less engagement than you expect. However, while promoting events such as Get it Together with Lauren Berger, I realized that being consistent is key. Additionally, I realized that in order to spread awareness, it may be necessary to establish partnerships or relationships with other organizations and clubs that have similar target audiences. This will help to reach new individuals and generate a larger audience.
This year I hope to expand the content on our social media. I would love to create a video of the volunteer work that we do. This will hopefully showcase the importance of the volunteer work and help to recruit more interested individuals to GlamourGals McMaster. I would also love to do short interviews with residents at the homes and share them with our audience. I think this will be a nice way to hear the stories of the residents and get to know them a bit better. Lastly, I want to try to increase engagement with our social media accounts. This might be done through interactive features on stories or perhaps other interactive opportunities like a Q&A session!
