Growth Through a Time of Uncertainty

Hailey M of the Mahopac High School Chapter expresses gratitude to GlamourGals for her personal development during unprecedented times.

Before Glamourgals I was a shy girl who was scared to even ask for ketchup at a restaurant. Socializing with the seniors not only forced me to open up to be more social but it showed me that it may be something I would love to do in the future.

I took over the role as the Co-President of the Chapter in my school, which helped me in the growth of my leadership abilities and I have tried my best to take charge, especially during these times of devastation. I decided to organize a way to stay connected safely. I had my club write letters and become penpals with the seniors we used to visit. I went to every girl’s house, driving around all of Putnam county, to pick up handmade cards for the seniors and then delivered them to our local nursing home. I have done this at least once a month and all together have collected over 150 cards and 120 crossword/coloring books for the seniors. The hours of driving around town was all worth it just to see the smile on their faces. In another effort to advance the happiness of the seniors during this time I have also taken the initiative to email several other schools in my state, informing them of the program, in hopes to spread happiness from GG in nursing homes all around the state, and eventually the word.

I have received clarity and my confidence has grown in the endless possibilities for my future. I love helping people achieve happiness, and whether I end up being a doctor or not, GG has allowed me to come to the conclusion that I need to continue doing similar activities in my future to enjoy what I do with GG, because GG really does warm my heart and always bring a smile to my face I can't thank this organization enough for allowing me to grow as not only a person but as a leader in my community and I hope to impact many others in my future.

I always pressured myself to be the “perfect” daughter for my family. This caused me to struggle to decide what I want to do for my future career. Being in GlamourGals allowed me to realize that no matter the pressure or prestige of the job, I want to help people. This is why it is crucial for Glamour Gals to do all we can to stay connected. It is crucial to keep smiles on the seniors' faces.
