My GG Journey - Reflection, Advice, and Plans as President!
Joyce L., a Francis Lewis High School volunteer, reflects on her inspiring journey with GlamourGals and the lessons she has learned so far as a club leader. She also shares what she hopes to achieve as President of her chapter this year!
I can't believe nor wait to be a senior this upcoming school year! I joined GG during my freshman year and I truly cannot express how thankful I am to be a part of the GG community. GG has taught me how to be a leader and how I can help the seniors at the senior center. Without GG, I would not have been able to start my own club that gives back to the community, like what GG does. I cannot wait for what the next school year will bring.
I joined GG my freshman year and started off as a member. I became a part of the board my sophomore year and was Secretary. This past year, I was able to work alongside my peers and was Vice President. For my final year at Francis Lewis High School as a senior, I will be president!
To the incoming volunteers, my advice would be to not be afraid to step up and talk to the board members. In 9th grade when I was still adjusting to high school, I found myself to be a little shy, however, I was able to talk to my president, Jasleen. She was extremely friendly and asked me if I wanted to help her with GG my sophomore year. Befriending the board members will be beneficial to not only help you have a better time at GG but will help you become a leader.
For the upcoming year, I am excited to return back to school and host engaging meetings! Some plans I have in mind are gifting the seniors' care/welcome packages, movie nights, manicure parties, and more. Because this will be my first year as president and a year back in person, I want to visit the senior center a lot more to help make the seniors less isolated. I am beyond excited and honored, and I can't wait to take on the responsibilities as president! I will try my best and work hard with my board members. Thankful to be the upcoming president!
