GG Holiday Cheer

GG Volunteers from the United States and Canada speak to the importance of spreading GG holiday cheer this time of year.

I think that, around the holidays, it is one of the most crucial times of the year when [seniors] need our service and connection! Many have lost family members, are living on their own, or do not get visitors, so this can be a very sad and lonely time. It is important that we are going to GG events and sending out Christmas cards so that we can stay connected with them. It will not only bring them joy but will help improve their mental health and keep them out of isolation. Also, new memories can be created and a negative connotation to the holidays could potentially change into a good one.

Going [into the seniors home] and spreading the GG holiday cheer is an act of kindness that could boost [the residents’] spirits and make them excited for Christmas time. Knowing that our GlamourGals chapter can be that change and happiness in a senior’s life make the holidays even more, merry and bright.
— Ava G. (Rutgers University)
The reason why spreading holiday cheer through GG is important to me is because many seniors… can get lonely and giving them a makeover can make them feel good about themselves, which brings happiness…Bringing them something to be cheerful about ,helps them not be worried or stressed about things, which makes their lives easier. Also, giving seniors a makeover gives them something to look forward to, which can help them deal with something they might be going through…[and] can help them feel more included and loved...
