Makeovers and Making Connections

Volunteers from the Sanford H. Calhoun High School chapter highlight their makeover experiences and their budding connections with seniors in their community.

The last makeover we had was a blast! We made great friends with the ladies there. I met a wonderful woman named Orlinda. While I was painting her nails she gave me amazing advice on how to live life to the fullest. She told me about her home country and how she had to work hard to come here and make a great life. It was so inspirational to me and the other GlamourGals to see the strength of these women.

Last month, I went on my first visit to the nursing home. It was a great experience and made me feel so happy to see the seniors with smiles on their faces. I painted the nails of a sweet lady whilst she told me about her family and where she used to live. I felt so connected to her and enjoyed listening to a bit of her story. I was a little bit nervous at first, but once I got to the home, the feeling of togetherness with everybody made me feel comfortable. Overall, it was an amazing experience that made me view the seniors and their home differently, and I can’t wait for the opportunity to attend another makeover.
