Love is in the Air

GG Volunteers from different chapters across the country share how they made their seniors feel extra loved this past Galentine’s Day and Valentine’s Day.

At our past visit, we threw a surprise for the seniors- a cupid explosion! We came to the center early and set up the entire room with decorations- balloons, streamers, rose petals...you name it. Their faces walking in were priceless. It was so lovely to hear their best love advice and talking to women from all walks of life! I took a break from the action and looked around and was filled with an overwhelming sense of happiness and love. It brings me so much joy to make other people feel beautiful and loved

This year for Galentine’s Day, we hosted an event to make goody bags to give to the seniors! While I wasn’t able to attend the Galentine’s Day visit to see all of the seniors receiving the gift bags, I heard that they all enjoyed them, and some were even putting on the earrings right there! I hope that this event made all of the seniors feel appreciated and gave them something fun and different to look forward to!

I had so much fun at our last senior home visit! We had our school’s food club baked 150 heart cookies to bring with us on our visit! The seniors were so delighted when they saw we had something planned for Valentine’s Day. One of them was even wearing the most adorable heart pajama pants. She must have been a baker because she made at least 20 cookies! It was so much fun including them in an activity, and I think they enjoyed it as well.

Our theme was Valentine’s Day and sharing that love with the seniors. It was the first time in the Alzheimer’s unit that we got to paint the seniors’ nails. They loved how the volunteers painted their nails and the colors they chose – they were overjoyed. We passed out cards to the seniors made by us and other students to boost their spirits. The lady whose nails I painted loved how they matched her pastel pink shirt, she looked absolutely AMAZING.
