My Senior Year at GG
Fatimah A., Thomas A. Edison High School volunteer, shares how her experience in GlamourGals has allowed her to create positive change within her community through meaningful conversations.
During my senior year, I was able to accomplish so many things. Organizing meetings, working with senior citizens, and truly making an impact in my community means so much! I never knew that I would be able to make my senior year so meaningful. I have gained valuable life lessons. I am so appreciative of everything that I have learned, because I was very sad when the pandemic happened. However, I was able to make a positive impact in my community, even working through virtual circumstances where we were not able to be in a physical setting.
Through GlamourGals, I realized that I am interested in pursuing and helping my community. Therefore, it has given me the perfect opportunity to allow me to do so. Additionally, I am interested in always incorporating the importance of staying organized, helping my peers. I am also interested in completing the assigned task at hand as quickly and efficiently as possible. I have gained the characteristic of being a team leader. I used to love working alone, and not with others as I preferred to work without the input of others. However, I learned that working together as a team is powerful. Being a part of a team creates an environment that is open to ideas, and a collaborative document that cannot be achieved individually. Therefore, GlamourGals has taught me the power of working as a team.
As the PR officer, I am able to learn about each and every member. This illustrates the impression that I have created a powerful and valuable network. The group of friends that I have made in the organization, is a valuable relationship and resource that I do not think I would have found otherwise. In addition, I am able to know more about my school community and create valuable friendships, relationships, and connections.
