Paper Plate Animals
As we begin Virtual Volunteer Week, we want to highlight the creativity of our volunteers who go above and beyond to bring smiles to the seniors’ faces. Most recently Misheel B., a William Lyon Mackenzie Ci volunteer, shared the fun their chapter had making paper plate animals through a Zoom call!
Frankly, this weekend hasn't been easy on me. With three upcoming unit tests, several projects due, and several extra-curricular leadership-related concerns weighing on my head, I've been studying and cramming like crazy. Still, while I questioned life decisions like taking Grade 11 Biology, I didn't for once regret signing up for my first GlamourGals event this Sunday. Not before, not during, not after.
With the sun streaming from a bright blue sky and a gentle, refreshing breeze wafting through my window, it was a beautiful day. I don't think I would have fully been able to take time to enjoy it if I weren't sitting in my room cutting construction paper and gluing pieces onto my brown and black patched (it's codominance according to Mendelian genetics!), and pink-nosed paper plate cow. Who knew arts and crafts could be such a stress reliever? It was truly enjoyable and fun. And the atmosphere? Nothing short of wholesome! The other GlamourGals, especially our execs Diana, Ilana, Mia, and Mya, were super engaged and cheerful - what contagious smiles!
What's more, when the residents opened up their camera so we could catch a glimpse of them and the animals they made, I truly felt my heart jump with excitement. If bonding over paper plate animals through a Zoom call was this much fun, I can't wait to meet them in person someday.
