Volunteering Doesn’t End Here
Olivia W., Bay Port High School volunteer, reflects on how GlamourGals has impacted her high school experience and future career goals. She shares how she plans to bring volunteering to a new community in college.
My one regret in high school is that I did not volunteer enough. I wish I would have joined more clubs early on, especially GlamourGals, and I wish COVID did not impact my high school career as much as it did. I started out in a few clubs freshman year, but quickly fell short of things when I could not drive and get places easily. Then, right as I was able to drive, COVID struck and all volunteer opportunities shut down to the public. Now I sit here as a senior wishing I could have done more. However, I realize that just because I am leaving high school does not mean that my volunteering needs to be cut short, rather this means that I can finally do more and grow as a volunteer. I can now move to my college town and bring my volunteer efforts to a new community. In my new college town I plan on volunteering as much as possible and being a part of the change in the community.
GlamourGals has significantly impacted my life since I have joined. Although I have only been in the club for one year I have fallen in love with the GlamourGals mission. GlamourGals is a fun way to volunteer. It is relaxing and feels effortless all while making a big impact on many peoples' lives. Furthermore, GlamourGals has impacted my future professional goals by making me realize how much I want to be a nurse. As a nurse I can help people and make a big impact on their life all through my job. Seeing the responses from the ladies and their joyful faces just brightens my day. Now, because of GlamourGals I believe that I have a driving force behind my career goals and I am excited for my future. I truly do believe that this organization has made a significant impact on my life in such a short amount of time.
