Going Above and Beyond with the Little Details

Francesca S., Treasurer at Glen Rock High School, shares her dedicated to combating senior isolation through heartfelt interactions and regular visits, always remembering the names and personal to make each senior feel valued and cherished.

I find it important to go above and beyond for our seniors. We are consistent visitors and friends in their lives. Though visiting seniors might be a small part of my life, it is important to me to be present while visiting. One way that I go above and beyond is by taking small notes about the seniors. Furthermore, I always try my absolute best to remember names and faces, because it shows that we care about our interactions. I can always tell how much it means to the seniors when I remember their name or a little detail about their life. Remembering these little “tibbits” has sparked my most memorable conversations. As a coffee lover myself, I loved speaking to a senior about all the coffee ice creams that she had tried and which she thought was best. My approach to visits is to treat the seniors, like a friend, and provide them with a shoulder to lean on.

Though GlamourGals is so much more than painting nails, I have personally experienced so many seniors getting a confidence boost while getting their nails done. Due to GlamourGals, I have become passionate about tackling senior isolation, and it means a lot to me that I can brighten the days of the seniors. I remember going to visit my great uncle on the weekends, it was something that he looked forward to and we all had a great time together. However, it occurred to me that not everyone has that privilege, and some of the seniors no longer get to see their families. Truly my one goal on a visit is to make the seniors smile while giving them an outlet to talk about whatever they want.
