Senior Home Visits: A Two Way Street Full of Impactful Experiences
Malina B, President of the Stevenson High School Chapter, shares how going above and beyond has not only impacted the seniors but also has impacted her life in so many ways.
Throughout my time at GlamourGals, I have learned that small details can make a big difference. When visiting the seniors, I go above and beyond to pick up on things they like, whether that is asking them what we could do better or picking apart conversations to find activities that will make them happy. Visits are for the seniors, so when planning them I try to tailor events towards their interests. Some of their favorites are cookie decorating and planting flowers. Seeing the seniors smiling is permanently ingrained in my mind, and I will always hold these memories close to my heart. Visits are designed for the seniors but always leave me feeling accomplished. Though I go above and beyond for the seniors, the way they have impacted me is something that I will always be thankful for. GlamourGals is an experience that I will never forget and will always cherish, as I have learned so many valuable lessons through the club.
Starting a chapter at my school was a mission that meant a lot to me. I have always been close to my grandparents and the idea of not being able to see them whenever I wanted was heartbreaking. I truly sympathize with seniors at home and not having a lot of social interaction, because during the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a time when we were all isolated from our loved ones. Being able to go on visits and socialize with the seniors is so rewarding, but the most rewarding part is knowing that the seniors always look forward to us coming back.
