Going Above and Beyond for a Makeover

Jacey L., Public Relations Officer of the Bay Port High School Chapter, reflects on her rewarding experience in holding two different leadership roles within GlamourGals, highlighting the valuable skills she has gained.

GlamourGals has profoundly shaped me as both an individual and a leader. It has made me more empathetic towards the elderly, who often experience loneliness. Seeing their joy during our visits has made me more compassionate, especially towards my own grandparents. Each visit to my great-grandma now includes a small gift, like a suncatcher, which she treasures.

Leadership roles in GlamourGals have taught me effective communication, teamwork, and how to be a role model. As Treasurer and Public Relations Officer, I've managed dues, collaborated with the leadership team, posted updates, and maintained communication with GG National. These experiences have equipped me with the skills to inspire and lead with empathy.

GlamourGals plays a vital role in our community, spreading kindness and positivity through in-person visits and heartfelt cards and crafts. Over the past two years, our chapter has built meaningful relationships with residents at a local assisted living facility. These visits are not just about makeovers but also about forming connections and brightening lives.

Our cards, filled with positive messages and colorful drawings, have been a crucial source of support, especially during the isolation of COVID-19. These gestures remind seniors that they are valued and remembered.

GlamourGals is essential to our community, because it brings joy and connection to seniors, reinforcing the importance of compassion and support. Through our efforts, we show that small acts of kindness can have a profound impact, making our community a brighter and more connected place.
