A Blossoming Friendship
Daria M from the University Of South Florida Chapter has formed beautiful intergenerational connections that have bloomed into a friendship!
During my time with GlamourGals, I’ve had the privilege of forming a beautiful intergenerational friendship with one of the seniors we visit regularly. Our connection started when I first introduced myself at one of our makeover events. I could immediately tell she was warm and easy to talk to, so we quickly struck up a conversation.
Over time, we bonded over our shared love for gardening. She told me about the vibrant garden she used to have before she moved, and I shared my passion for plants. We would exchange tips on caring for succulents, flowers, and even how to keep certain plants thriving indoors.
Our conversations also often turn to life experiences—she has so many amazing stories to share about her younger years, and I find myself fascinated by the wisdom she’s gained over the years. Whether it’s about family traditions, the changes she’s seen in the world, or her thoughts on the importance of kindness and community, I’ve learned so much from her perspective.
What I’ve come to appreciate the most is how much we have in common despite our age gap. Our friendship has shown me that at the core, we all seek connection, joy, and a sense of belonging. It's a reminder that these intergenerational friendships are not just about what we give, but what we receive—wisdom, compassion, and a deeper appreciation for life's simple pleasures.
