First Makeover Fun
Aditi R. of the University Of South Florida Chapter gave three unique women three unique GG makeovers - and learned a lot in the process!
This was my first GlamourGals event, and I've already met so many wonderful people and experienced the positive impact of engaging with my community. All the volunteers who helped with this event were kind and sincere about making the most of it for the elders. We worked together as a team to set up decorations, do our makeup, and ensure everyone had a fun time.
I had the privilege of giving Helen, Gladice, and Anna makeovers.
With Helen, I learned a lot of techniques for applying nail polish and makeup efficiently. It was incredible to learn from her – she was a beautician for over 60 years! She jokingly said she would wash it off if she didn't like it, but with her guidance and my best effort, she approved and was pleased with my work.
Gladice was a charming lady who also enjoys sewing and making clothes, just like me. She told me she doesn't usually like drinks, but she makes an exception for orange juice, and she loves bright colors. I gave her a colorful manicure with a different color on each finger.
Anna was sweet. She shared that she used to have naturally red hair when she was younger. She loved her makeover and asked when I would come back next time and how much it would cost for a photo of us together.
Each of the ladies I met were delightful, each with a unique story to tell. Going into this event with an open heart allowed for the most growth and gratitude. It felt personal and provided me with different perspectives on life and a greater appreciation for the journey. I witnessed the uplifting power of community, especially during challenging times. I laughed so many times listening to the conversations between the ladies and the GlamourGals members.
I'm excited for the next event and will make sure to bring a printed photo for Anna when I see her (for free, of course)!
