Rachel’s Visit to our Bloomfield Chapter
Astrid R. of the Bloomfield Chapter shared her reflections of Rachel’s special visit to Bloomfield - their prize for writing the most My Dear Friend holiday cards!
Having Rachel at BHS meant so much to me. It's been a week, and I think I finally have the words to describe how it made me feel.
I still remember seeing the GlamourGals table at the Club Fair in the BHS main gym. Chapter leaders were eager to tell me all about it. However, it wasn't until I saw the wonders the club did for the Bloomfield community that I realized how lucky I was to be exposed to it. I've held the position of PR officer and have been president for two years. Knowing that our work is translating well and being noticed is so rewarding.
I told Rachel during her visit how much it meant to me that she posted and pinned an appreciation letter I wrote to her at my first GLTI. I shared how happy I felt that I was being noticed and how much that card meant to me. I had written about being isolated from my grandparents, who are in the Dominican Republic, and how GlamourGals has made me feel closer to them every time I visit a senior home. Two years later, I still feel this way. I honestly feel I owe so much to Rachel Doyle. Being involved in GG has helped me express myself better, lose the fear of being a leader, and most importantly, it has taught me how to be a compassionate leader. I will forever be grateful for that.
I hope that the GG Bloomfield Chapter continues to be noticed in every possible way. We care so much for the seniors we visit and work very hard to keep our volunteers engaged.
