Positivity Through Hardship

Bianca P., Vice President of Sanford H. Calhoun High School’s chapter, shares a lesson she learned while visiting a senior home.

I want to reflect on a moment: a makeover that changed how I go through every day of my life. It is about Teresa, a senior I was lucky enough to meet this year. After some small talk, she shared a story from when she was my age, when she encountered a mean and racist woman. Instead of reacting with anger, she calmly said, "I wish you luck, and I hope God can heal whatever is bothering you." This quote from Teresa has stuck with me ever since. She showed me how to rise above hatred and taught me that everyone gets what they deserve in life. It’s far easier to be kind than to be mean. So be kind, love people, and remember that everyone experiences life in their own way.

I was fortunate to serve as Vice President of my school’s GlamourGals chapter, and I have used this opportunity to build a strong community and create a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The chance to inspire so many of my peers, across all grades, to join GlamourGals was incredibly rewarding. Going above and beyond wasn't a chore, but a privilege—one that allowed me to grow, connect, and make a meaningful impact.
