Going With the Flow

Mallory D., a volunteer at Shenandoah High School, reflects on the lessons she learned and the confidence she gained while volunteering at senior homes.

One of the most memorable experiences I had with a senior was during my first makeover event. I was scared and worried I might mess up someone's nails. However, the first lady I spoke to made me feel confident as she was very easy to talk to. This later gave me the confidence to talk to many other residents at the senior home, even with the people who did not want their nails done. From this experience, I learned that I worried too much about the little things and that I should try to go with the flow a little more. So, I began to do that during our other events. This led to me being confident when speaking to seniors and helped me achieve doing five people’s nails in one event!
