Overcoming Fear

Priscilla B. from the Atlantic County Institute of Technology chapter shares how nervousness over doing a makeover for a senior for the first time resulted in connection and a life lesson.

I am a senior at Atlantic County Institute of Technology, and this was my first year of joining GlamourGals. It was an early afternoon when the other GG members and I went to the Seashore Gardens Nursing Home nursing home. I met this sweet elderly lady named Ginny. Ginny wanted her nails painted, and at first, I was hesitant to do so because I didn’t want to mess up, but she encouraged me and said I have nothing to worry about. We sat together, and as I’m painting her nails in this beautiful pink color, we are having a conversation about challenging situations in life.

She gave me some advice, which I still think about today, which was “things in life can be fearful, especially if it's your first time, but learn to do them scared instead of not at all.” We got into this topic because I was in fear of messing up her nails, but in the end, she loved them, and it was the perfect example given. Ginny made me realize to at least always try whatever the task may be, and if it doesn’t work out in your favor in the end, you can always say that you tried, and that’s what matters. I enjoyed all of my experiences and memories that I created through my time in GlamourGals, and hope that others have the opportunity to create memories as well.
