Powerful Advice

Shaneela H., President of Half Hollow Hills High School West chapter feels empowered by a hot pink shirt and speaking with seniors. 

GlamourGals not only allowed me to become more passionate and responsible, but it also gave me an experience in which I was able to learn valuable lessons that no other club gave me. For instance, there is a particular senior at the assisted living center we visit named Phyllis. While I was discussing college plans with Phyllis and how nervous I was for the future, she gave me advice that stuck with me as I was applying to colleges. She told me that whatever I did, I should enjoy life, because life is short and I probably wouldn't remember what I did at work as much as how much I enjoyed it. There were countless seniors that gave me advice about everything related to life, which is an experience I only got from GlamourGals. 

Besides being able to communicate with and form relationships with seniors, I was able to form connections with volunteers from other chapters as well. After attending GLTI, I became friends with volunteers from other chapters and I was able to share ideas about how we could improve both of our chapters with them. I was able to learn how to improve as a leader. The most important part about GlamourGals, is that every time I wore the bright pink t-shirt with the GlamourGals logo on it, I felt empowered and proud. Without this t-shirt, I would not have become the newer version of myself that I am today.
