Connecting Through Small Acts of Service

Ryan P., President of the Commack GlamourGals chapter, shares the lessons she’s learned and how connecting with seniors has impacted her leadership.

When I first joined GlamourGals freshman year, I knew I wanted to make a difference. What I never expected was how deeply it would change me. As President of Commack GlamourGals chapter, I’ve worked passionately to grow our team, organize events and makeovers, and bring endless energy and happiness to seniors. Beyond all the planning, the best of it all was the memories and moments we created with seniors during our visits. During the makeovers and within each conversation, smiles were seen, and laughter was heard. Making the seniors feel heard and seen reminded me of the true importance of being present and connecting with those around you.

Just a simple act of service like complimenting someone’s hair, holding the door open, or even just smiling can add so much joy to one’s life. You never know the struggles someone might be facing, but sometimes even the smallest act can make them feel truly valued, and that makes it all worthwhile. I will forever carry the lessons and experiences with me for my life.
