Making Connections and Becoming a Leader

Tiffany F., Vice President of Atlantic County Institute Of Technology’s chapter, shares one of her favorite GlamourGals experiences and how she helped garner participation in the My Dear Friend campaign.

When I first joined GlamourGals, I thought I was simply volunteering to bring joy to seniors. However, I soon discovered that our true mission lies in listening to their stories, embracing their wisdom, and forming relationships that transcended generations. One of my most memorable experiences was with Tony, a resident at a senior home I visited. As we laughed, playing bingo and making fat snowman marshmallows (as he called them), his warm stories reminded me how much love seniors have to share, and how essential it is for them to feel valued.

Beyond these heartwarming moments, my role as a chapter leader truly transformed my understanding of leadership. During our My Dear Friend card-writing campaign, I faced a challenge when very few members attended our meetings. Determined to spark change, I consulted with other leaders of our chapter and found out we had spare GlamourGals merchandise like shirts and stickers. I decided to raffle them off at the meetings and bring snacks to make the events more inviting. It worked! More members joined in, and together, we wrote over 300 cards to fight senior isolation. This experience taught me that leadership isn’t just about taking charge; it’s about inspiring others to make a difference.
