Flower Crown Making

Tiffany C., a Hofstra University volunteer, brings smiles to seniors at her first in-person GlamourGals event of the service year.

I attended my first in-person event with the seniors at the local senior home. The seniors were excited to see us and were surprised at how many chapter members came to the event. Each senior present was able to have at least one member by their side resulting in each senior getting at least 1 hand-made flower crown. Moreover, each person was engaging in 1-on-1 conversations with their partnered senior filling the room with chatter. By the end, the seniors with their personal crowns lit up the room with their smiles.

Despite not knowing how to make flower crowns prior to this event, it was still really rewarding and a nice distraction from my studies. The event was made more special by the fact that we made cards for them at our previous event. With the pandemic still affecting the world, everyone needs social interactions to help them get through it. I'm glad that we were able to attend the event while being cautious with the spread of COVID among ourselves and the high-risk seniors. I hope to be able to attend more in-person events and have more if the pandemic wanes in the future.
