Trip to Parker Home

Brooke S., a Rutgers University volunteer, shares stories of the wonderful seniors she met at the Parker Home during her chapter’s last visit. In addition to the manicures, they had lovely conversations and moments of singing that Brooke will never forget.

This past Saturday, December 11, I had the pleasure of painting Virginia from the Parker Home at River Road's nails. She wanted them a sparkly pink and was so excited to share her opinions with me about how special getting one's nails done is. My conversation with her was so rewarding, she spoke about the confidence that a manicure gives her and was so happy to share stories with me about her experiences with what made her feel beautiful throughout her life, as well as today. We listened to Christmas carols together and by the end of the day, Virginia was so happy to be able to show off her nails when her family comes to visit for her upcoming birthday and Christmas celebrations. It was truly a wonderful winter day at the Parker Home.

We also visited Eleanor, a woman who loved to sing with us. My fellow GlamourGal began to play the piano for the ladies while they got their nails done, and Eleanor was so excited to sing along to "Alouette," a happy French tune that put a smile on her face instantly. She was so impressed with our resident GlamourGal pianist and was thrilled to share her song with us, singing and smiling about the music. It was truly a joy to see how much Eleanor loved to hear the song. I am so grateful for small moments like these, reminding me how happiness can be found anywhere, all the time, and when you least expect it.

My conversation with her was so rewarding, she spoke about the confidence that a manicure gives her and was so happy to share stories with me about her experiences with what made her feel beautiful throughout her life, as well as today.
