2020 Visit Past Reflection

Stefanie B., a volunteer from the Thomas A. Edison High School chapter, shares a memory from a GlamourGals makeover event she attended before the pandemic.

Although I didn't get the chance to journal last year. I wanted to recall the memories I made with seniors at Margaret Tietz Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jamaica, NY. Going to the senior home after school on Friday lightened up my mood and was the highlight of my week to end the school week off on a good note. At the nursing home, we did a fun activity where we gave seniors rainbow scratch paper notes with a little stick for them to scratch off the black paint and reveal the rainbow colors! One senior citizen I had worked with had a lot of fun drawing and I showed her she could draw hearts, stars, and smiley faces. We decorated it together for her to keep in her room. It was a fun experience and good for seniors to engage themselves and their brains during activities that can prevent or slow the onset of dementia.
