The Rock Hill High School Chapter attended their first GG Senior Home Visit, forging bonds with resident Dave over the joys of music.
“It was my first time going on a senior home visit, and I had a great time! In the beginning, I asked if I could play the piano, and they approved, but I was so nervous that I couldn’t get the notes right. Then after a while, a senior named Dave came by and taught me a song, which also allowed me to become more comfortable and courageous when playing the piano in public. It was the first time in 4 years that I had played the piano in public…[Dave] spoke of his past and how he learned the piano and the guitar. Later, he even showed me how he played the guitar. I was astonished by how all of the instruments he played were self-taught and very soothing to the ear.”
“It has been 3 days since the senior visit and meeting Dave is still the highlight of my week. He taught me how to play piano a little and told me things about life. He even spun humor into it. Thinking about his advice and his feelings about music is a new source of motivation. I want to pick up old skills from the past, like playing the piano and violin.”
