Doing Gourd: Crafting Seasonal Cards for Seniors

The Hofstra University Chapter organized their first in-person chapter meeting of the year, creating seasonal cards for the seniors in their community.

Today, we made wonderful autumn-themed cards. This exercise made me think about how important even the simplest things in life are. A simple greeting card can bring smiles to so many people. My motto in life is always to have at least one act of kindness a day. You never know how someone’s day is going and a simple compliment or card in this case can make the difference. This exercise can be applied to holidays… Additionally, GlamourGals is an amazing place where you can also meet many peers with different majors that are passionate about giving back!

I really enjoyed the activity of the fall card making itself; it felt very rewarding decorating and curating messages that, at some point, will be sent to the seniors. I always like to imagine ahead, seeing how their faces might light up once they see the cards that have the thoughtful messages written within them. I know moving forward, the GlamourGals plan to visit the seniors in person and participate in fun games with them; I can’t wait for that! Just seeing some pictures from past GG events makes me excited to actually be a part of the organization this year. This card making was our first meeting in person for the school year, and I’m enjoying my time, alongside my suitemates, in being a part of something greater than ourselves.
