Dropping off Cards and Cookies to Seniors
Kiera B., Mount Saint Dominic Academy President, shares the wonderful events her chapter has hosted for the seniors in Caldwell, NJ. She is excited to continue having these meaning interactions with them this service year.
Today was my very first senior visit with the girls at Marion Manor in Caldwell, NJ, five minutes from my school. Unfortunately, due to the new Covid variant, we were only allowed to bring four volunteers to today's meeting. Even with this setback, we made the absolute most of it and I had an amazing time. I cannot express my excitement for this club and how much joy it already brings to me and more importantly the seniors. Seeing their faces light up today while decorating cookies was the best experience, laughing and talking with them from things about their childhoods or families, to their favorite colors and books and movies. Overall I could not have asked for a better start to this club and I can't wait to continue these events with other fun and creative ideas. I love GlamourGals.
Creating these cards for our seniors felt so incredibly special. Hand making things that I know the seniors will look at and smile brings me so much joy, especially when they were all isolated because of Covid-19. Along with the cookies, spending time decorating these cookies for Valentines' Day felt like the opposite of a chore, it was something that I was just so excited to bring to them. The day we all dropped them off was great. All the volunteers in their Glamour Gals t-shirts, taking pictures, we all looked so great. This was an overall great experience, and I believe this speaks volumes considering we weren't even allowed to spend time with the seniors.
