Perseverance Through a Pandemic
Jordan L., Sar High School President, discusses her dedication and relentless effort to maintain GlamourGals activities during a virtual pandemic.
GlamourGals is important to my community because it is teaching young women that age does not determine how sharp a mind is. We can connect with older generations the same way we connect with our friends, over topics like beauty and music.
The COVID-19 pandemic created significant setbacks for our club. Restrictions have prevented us all year from meeting virtually or in person. Nevertheless, I was persistent to keep the chapter engaged and involved. We had planned three different parties; unfortunately, they were all canceled, either by the senior home or our faculty advisor. Despite these challenges, our club has grown exponentially this year, going from 3 members to 15.
GlamourGals has taught me to speak up against injustice. I was told that we could not meet during school hours for a zoom party, and fought against this because I knew that if we couldn't meet during the day with the seniors, we would never have the chance. I have learned how to hear the voices of those whom the world chooses to ignore. I now know how to lead a session and get feedback from others.
