A Small Bracelet, A Big Impact

Avry W. of the University Of South Florida Chapter shares how making a simple bracelet with a senior gave her a heartwarming moment of connection.

Today I went to my first event. It was a Saturday, the day people tend to have off from work and responsibilities. Yet, the only visitors these gals had were us. We worked together to decorate the activity room with streamers and pink tablecloths. We offered cookies and lemonade on matching pink plates and cups. Hershey's Kisses were also enjoyed. We also passed out the gift bags we put together last time. Each gal had her own reason for coming to our event - some wanted the manicure and of course a cookie, but most wanted connection.

The connection I made that I felt most impactful today was helping Judy make a bracelet. I noticed she wrote "I love Oscar" on her rainbow scratch craft and asked who Oscar was to her. She told me he was her husband. We didn't discuss if Oscar was still with her, just her love of him. She complimented the bracelet I had made that read "GlamourGals". I asked if she would like to make one. She wasn't sure what to put on it. I asked if she would like her words on a bracelet. She smiled. Like a teenager fresh in love, she now wears her "I LOVE OSCAR" bracelet proudly. We love you Oscar! And we love you, Judy! See you next time!
