Girls With Memories

Maia S., Vice President of Half Hollow Hills High School West chapter, shares how GlamourGals has united her with seniors through joy and memories.

Leading our chapter has taught me how to organize, communicate, and build a community rooted in compassion. Many freshmen were worrying about which clubs they needed to join. I immediately suggested GlamourGals and explained to them the impact it would make on the seniors as well as themselves. I shared how powerful it is to connect with seniors through small, caring moments like painting one’s nails and having conversation. I even brought the experience home by pampering my own grandmother, painting her nails and spending quality time together, just like we do during visits.

One moment I’ll always remember was with a senior from Tennessee. As I painted her nails a coral pink, she told me stories about her high school prom since me and my friend were worried about getting dates for ours. We laughed and talked about her old boyfriend and how she met her husband. It was like straight out of a movie. At that moment, we weren’t separated by age, we were simply girls sharing memories. Working alongside my fellow volunteers has helped us build a strong, supportive team, especially my best friend Shaneela, the president. Our team collaborates on event ideas like ice cream sales, making cards, and encourages each other to bring joy to every visit. GlamourGals has helped me grow as a leader, a listener, and a friend.
