Why Jennifer serves with GlamourGals

Jennifer O'Keeffe, M.D. started her journey with GlamourGals back in 2002, alongside founder Rachel Doyle, at the Commack High School chapter. She completed her B.S. at Tulane University and her medical degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Her experience volunteering for GlamourGals directly impacted her desire to practice medicine and led her to a career as a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in New York City. Jennifer sees first hand the impact of service and connection on the mental health of teens, adults, and seniors. She has a private practice on the Upper East Side and serves on the Board of the New York Council on Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, promoting advocacy and awareness for mental health across the city.

What made GlamourGals real for you?

"It was the first time I saw the look on a woman's face and it wasn't just gratitude, but something deeper. She looked alive again. At that moment I realized GlamourGals isn't about makeup at all. It's about giving someone back a piece of themselves they thought was gone.”

What’s your favorite “main character energy” song?

""Shake It Off" by Taylor Swift — it's my reminder to let go of the things that don't really matter and hold onto what actually makes me feel alive and strong.”

What’s the best piece of advice a senior ever gave you?

"She told me that connecting with someone young means more to her than connecting with people her own age. It lets her live vicariously through us, and that's where she finds her meaning now. It stuck with me, because I realized I wasn't just there to help her. She was showing me how to find meaning in someone else's life, not just your own.”
